In 1504 the people of Jamaica found the shipwrecked Colombus off their coast. He had gone as far south as Honduras in his fourth and final trip.
Between 1508 and 1511 the native population of the West Indies were decimated by disease, warfare, and slave labour. Tens of thousands died.
